Invisible Spaces
There’s ocean’s in-between us, but that’s not very far
It’s strange, having the sense of knowing someone, yet having that distance placed between you. The idea that you’ve seen her in the most intimate manner time after time, and you know her personality enough that you know what makes her smile, what makes her feel better, and yet, she insists on maintaining a certain amount of distance between you and her.
You know it's because she's afraid of getting close to you, afraid of what might happen when she truly lets herself go, yet it's that reason that you persist your efforts. After all, you’re different from the other guys, the ones who didn’t see her, the ones who didn’t know her like you do now. So each day, you will work on her barriers, her insecurities, cutting down the space between in hopes that one day... she’ll let you in.

Chinks in the Armour
I am covered in skin; no one gets to come in
As you type on your laptop beside him, you hear him flipping through the Queen Industries paperwork, giving the odd reaction to a particular graphic or paragraph in front of him.
It had taken a total of five minutes after he was discharged from the hospital to get back to work, calling his associates in his car, trying to set appointments. That was when you drew the line, reminding him of the fact his chest had been charred and that right now, sitting up was a tough enough chore for him.
So this had been your compromise for the past two weeks, sitting next to each other on his bed, getting work done. You know how stubborn he is, so you keep an eye on him, making sure he doesn't do something he regrets. Besides, most of what you need is on your laptop anyway, so you're not inconvenienced at all.
Taking a breath, you close your laptop, and your eyes meet the bandages on his chest, reminding you of how you almost lost him, of how you’re almost lucky that all Zod decided to do was scar his chest. It’s a lengthy recovery regardless, but he’s still here. Oliver is still here with you.
Eventually, he senses your stare and asks, “You okay?”
Smiling at him, you tell him that you’re going to turn in, and he should take it easy. Although he only nods, you hope he listens to you because you don’t want to risk any setbacks. Each day, seeing in him in pain like this, has been tougher on you than you ever thought.
As your face hits the pillow, you realize that he’s starting to get to you. You swore to yourself that he wouldn’t, but as each day goes by, Oliver seems to be slowly tearing down the walls you had worked so hard to build.
It scares you, but with him, you begin to feel something again. Oliver brings reality back to your life, and trials aside, you've begun to trust people again. You had once accused Clark of losing his humanity, but Tess was right, you were no better, relying on the database to get through the day. Oliver changed that, and while you don’t have a name for what that means, it’s a step in the right direction, one you’re not ready to give up yet.
I am ready, I am fine
